Located south of the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, at the foot of the appellation’s main slope, Château Canon La Gaffelière’s terroir consits of very well-drained clay-limestone and clay-sand soils that soak up the sun’s warmth. Reflecting the estate’s unusual soil, the proportion of grape varieties – almost equally divided between Merlot and Cabernet – are also atypical for the appellation.
Cabernet ripens very early on Canon La Gaffelière’s warm soils, complementing Merlot’s opulence with considerable power and aromatic complexity. The two varieties marry beautifully to give Canon La Gaffelière its natural elegance and finesse.

EXPOSITION PIERRE CLERK
As a complement to the Pompidou Mobile Museum, which will be in Libourne from 24 October 2012 to 20 January 2013, and in the framework of the Un Château, Une Œuvre ("One Château, One Work of Art") network, Château Canon La Gaffelière is exhibiting the works of the American contemporary artist Pierre Clerk, whose creations are inspired by Picasso, Mondrian, Matisse, etc.
A talented colourist, Clerk's graphic universe is rooted in abstraction. His well-defined, meticulous works strike a balance between shapes and their relationship with colours.
This is a rare and exceptional exhibition not to miss! Free entry by appointment.
Do you want to combine art and wine? Please do not hesitate to book a visit to the exhibition, including a tour of the estate and wine tasting (10.00 € /person).
