Château Caillou is classified as a second grand cru classé, know under the appellation of Sauternes and Barsac.The property has been owned by the same family for more than 100 years. Marie José and Michel Pierre are actually the third generation. Their sons Jean-Noel & Sébastien have recently joined them and are currently in charge of the vineyards.
Located in Barsac which is 50 km south from Bordeaux, Château Caillou owes its name to its underground composed of a chalky and clavey plateau mixed with red sand rich in flagstone and rocks which bring the wine its delicate flavour. The vineyard has a surface of 17 hectares and is composed of 90 % Sémillon and 10 % Sauvignon.
